Transliteracy

There are certain terms that are rising to the fore with which educators must become familiar. One of them is transliteracy.

Transliteracy is an umbrella term encompassing different literacies and multiple communication channels that require active participation with and across a range of platforms, and embracing both linear and non-linear messages. -Dr. Susie Andretta, London Metropolitan University.

Transliteracy is a "convergence of literacies", (Lippincott, 2007:17) -Dr. Susie Andretta, London Metropolitan University.

Cynthia Jabar has an excellent site that explores the ideas of transliteracy.

I'm sharing this for two reasons:
1. We need to shift our teaching of genre. Educators must become familiar and comfortable with emerging genres and how learners interact with them, rather than merely teaching those with which we are familiar.

2. It's a great site and well worth sharing. Thanks Cynthia.
