Time to Vote: Main Page

Final submissions for the main page were posted in the wiki and Ian, Esa and Cynthia provided excellent feedback.  The students took their comments seriously and examined each image carefully.

Before we voted we had a discussion about acting professionally during this process. Their choice had to represent Dundas and had to be what they felt was the best work from the class.  They were not to worry about hurting someone's feelings or choosing their friend's design or that their own design was not being selected. They needed to remember that whatever they chose was going out into the public for all to see and would create an impression of our class.

Then it was time to vote. Students sat by themselves so that they could vote in privacy. We voted by process of elimination.  We went through the 15 designs one by one; students crossed off those that they felt would not be the best choice and were left with a smaller selection. We went through them a second time and then a third until a winner was chosen. Once again I was surprised at the maturity with which they approached the task.  They were professionals at work.

Class 62 ended up selecting number 3 on the list, followed by number 13 - only 1 vote separated the two choices.  Based on advice, Taylor has agreed to intensify the colour of her design; it's the one area that needs improvement.

When I began this project I had no idea just how beneficial it would be for my class to work directly with professionals. Students respect their opinions and have learned so much from them. Thank you Ian, Cynthia and Esa. You have brought these students to a level of understanding and commitment that I could never have done on my own. That is the richness that is available to all educators who choose to work in a Web 2.0 world.

Now we just have to choose the splash page, upload our recording of ghost stories and then we are done!

  1. I'm very honored to be working with everyone! Ian has an amazing ability to connect people, share information and foster creativity. I'm also very impressed with the professional way the class got down to business and did the hard work of creating. Creativity is not linear. You should all be very proud of what you have achieved during this process. You are pioneers! Bravo and BIG thanks to Heidi for including me, looking forward to continuing the collaboration in any way I can help!
